Arrive in the worlds greatest city
Enjoy three amazing days exploring the world’s greatest city. An epicentre of the arts and America's true dining and shopping capital. New York City wears many crowns and spreads an irresistible feast for all. Only the Big Apple can provide so much packed into five boroughs.

So good they name in twice!
You have two full days to enjoy New York. We recommend taking one of the open top buses to get a feel for the different areas of the city. Not only is it good value for money but it'll help familiarise yourself with the layout. Your Road Trip Pack is full of recommendations of where to eat and see too.

Day 3
Explore more of Manhattan
Manhattan's Central Park offers a break from the stresses of city life, watch joggers and dog walkers stretch their legs amongst more than 800 acres of well-maintained lawns boating ponds and even a castle and zoo. If you want to hit the shops, Fifth Avenue is one of the main arteries leading to the south of the park.

Drive to Washington, DC via Gettysburg or Philly
Today you'll collect your hire car and drive from New York City to the nation's capital, Washington, DC. Getting in and out of the city will take a few hours but if you have time try and schedule a stop in Philadelphia to learn more about U.S. history or sample a Philly Cheese Steak.

Day 2 in the world’s most powerful city
Enjoy a full day to explore Washington, DC. The city is easy to navigate and like New York is spread over a large area. The 'Federal District' is home to the iconic monuments and government buildings. We recommend visiting one of the free Smithsonian Museums which are dotted along the 'Mall'.

Day 6
Spend the day in DC, before heading to the start of Skyline Drive
Spend the first part of the day checking off any of the remaining world-famous sights that remain or by exploring Georgetown which is a charming corner of the city, and well worth a visit. Later today you'll travel out of the city to Front Royal on the cusp of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Cruise the incredible Skyline Drive
Front Royal marks the start of the legendary Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Stunning surroundings, abundant wildlife and a 35mph speed limit mean you'll easily spend the day meandering this 105-mile leg of your journey. Why not park up at one of the scenic lay-bys and stretch your legs on one of the many trails.

The famous Blue Ridge Parkway
The best way to enjoy this area is by driving the Blue Ridge Parkway from Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. This is one of America’s truly great roads, it makes the very most of the stunning mountain views with the famous blue haze.

A full day exploring America’s most visited National Park
Ridge upon ridge of forest straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World-renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America's most visited National Park.

Cruise over to Nashville
The home of Country Music and very proud of it. Nashville boasts its music heritage at every opportunity and is home to the Country Music Hall of Fame. It's not all about country music. The region has a rich blues history too with singers and songwriters from every genre calling 'Music City' home.

Day 11
Explore the sights and sounds of Nashville
Enjoy a full day in Nashville. Head to the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge (colloquially known in Nashville as simply the ‘Pedestrian Bridge’) which spans the Cumberland River. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better view of the Nashville skyline anywhere. Tonight, for the full tourist experience, head down to Broadway and stop by a honky tonk or two for a one-of-a-kind night.

Onto Memphis , Tennessee
Continue west through Tennesse to Memphis. Second, only to The White House, Elvis Presley’s Graceland is arguably the most iconic home in America. Memphis has plenty more to offer, including the legendary Sun Records studios and the moving National Civil Rights Museum. In our opinion, Memphis is the Barbecue capital of America so make sure you try a rib joint tonight.

A second day enjoying the food and music of Memphis

Diverse scenery of Oklahoma
Cross the plains of Arkansaw today before arriving in the state capital of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City. Here you'll join up with Route 66 as you continue west towards the Pacific. Tonight, explore Brick-town for dinner and stroll amongst the Oklahoma City River Trail.

Start your engines, historic Route 66 awaits.
After breakfast try and fit in a visit to the moving Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial. Later you'll continue your drive west to Texas for a nights stop in Amarillo.

Route 66 continues to Albuquerque
On the way from Amarillo, you’ll have the chance to visit some classic 'Mother Road' attractions. This includes Cadillac Ranch, Midpoint Cafe and the Route 66 Auto Museum in Santa Rosa. New Mexico. You’ll finish the day in Albuquerque, New Mexico which still has a strong Native American and Hispanic community.

Meteor Crater and funky Flagstaff
Included in your Road Trip Pack you'll find plenty of detailed suggestions about what to do and see on route. One of our favourites is the Meteor Crater near Winslow in Arizona. El Morro is a detour considering too to see 'inscription rock', a large sandstone pueblo where travellers since the 17th century have left messages. You'll arrive tonight in Flagstaff for a one night stay.

Day 18
The awesome Grand Canyon National Park
90 minutes north of Flagstaff, is the Grand Canyon south rim. The worlds largest and most well known geological wonder is just staggering. Two billion years in the making, the Colorado River has forged a mile deep, 18 miles wide and 277-mile long gauge into Arizona. Tonight you'll stay on the rim itself in the heart of the National Park.

Monument Valley majesty
Heading back on yourself northwards today you'll arrive on the border of Arizona and Utah on the Navajo Indian Territory for a stay at Monument Valley. This magical area is an amazing experience, but particularly stunning at dawn or dusk.

Day 20
Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon
Continuing west again today you'll arrive in Page at Lake Powell which is home to the famous Antelope Canyon. The has two separate, photogenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as Upper Antelope Canyon or The Crack; and Lower Antelope Canyon or The Corkscrew. Make sure your camera has plenty of room for photos - this is the most photographed slot canyon in the southwest of America.

Bryce Canyon
Day 21
Stunning Bryce Canyon and Zion
Travel to Bryce Canyon today. This National Park is famous for unique geology made up of a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheatres carved from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The erosional force of frost-wedging and the dissolving power of rainwater have shaped the colourful limestone rock into bizarre shapes, including slot canyons, windows, fins, and spires called 'hoodoos'. Later today you'll travel south to Springdale for your overnight stay.

Zion Valley
Day 22
Natural beauty at its best - Zion
Wake up in Springdale, Utah, which is the park entry point for Zion National Park. Emerald pools, lush green trees, rust red canyon walls and crystal clear skies are all crammed into this narrow valley which makes up the park. The combination of colours is a visual delight and the park's trails offer many more. Zion National Park is one The American Road Trip Company’s favourite destinations.

Day 23
Man made wonder - Las Vegas
Head west to Las Vegas today. Once you’ve checked into your Las Vegas hotel, get dressed up and hit the tables, bars and restaurants. Alternatively, take the time to relax at your hotel around the pool.

More Las Vegas fun
If your head hurts after a big night out, you can always relax by the amazing pools adorning nearly every hotel. Stretch your legs with a walk along the legendary 'strip', book tickets to one of the incredible shows or take some retail therapy. We recommend visiting one of the over the top buffets in the hotels. Just make sure you are hungry when you go, the range and quality of the food is amazing value!

Day 25
Two gorgeous deserts and Palm Springs relaxation
Enter California today. Your first stop is Joshua Tree National Park. An alien landscape, characterized by rugged rock formations and stark desert landscapes. Named for the region’s twisted, bristled Joshua trees, the park straddles the cactus-dotted Colorado Desert and the Mojave Desert. Continue east to the oasis of Lake Havasu, where you can visit the original London Bridge which was imported here from London in the 1970s.

Day 26
Tinseltown Los Angeles
Today you'll arrive in Los Angeles. Hollywood is synonymous with glitz and glamour, and although many of the studios have now moved onto to other parts of town it's still fun to visit the home of the Oscars and walk Hollywood Boulevard. Just a short drive northeast of here lies the Griffith Observatory, perched high on a hill overlooking the urban sprawl of LA.

So much to see and do in LA
Enjoy another full day in your final stop, Los Angeles. Beverly Hills offers the chance to see movie star homes with sky-high fences on palm tree-lined streets. You may want to visit one of Hollywood's excellent Theme Parks, with Disneyland, Universal Studios and Knotts Berry to chose from. Alternatively, stroll along Santa Monica's beachfront and enjoy being on the Pacific Coast.

The LA beach towns are calling
It's your final full day in Los Angeles. This is a huge city with plenty of hidden gems to enjoy. If you're looking for surfing, head to Huntington Beach, or for more culture and arts you may want to visit the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in nearby Simi Valley. Talk to us to discuss how to make the most of your time. Tomorrow you'll check out of your hotel and head to the airport to return your hire car for your overnight flight back to the U.K.
