All of our American road trips can be tailored to meet your requirements. Do you have more or less than 14 days for your road trip? No problem, we can bolt on extra nights to allow more time to explore or shorten the number of destinations as required.
You’ll start your Pacific Northwest holiday in Seattle. If you have any energy left after your flight, why not have dinner at one of Seattle’s wonderful restaurants? We highly recommend the seafood joints found in Pike Place Market. Do you just need a cup of coffee to help you stay awake after your flight? Then head over to first-ever Starbucks, also located in Pike Place.
Seattle is one of the fastest-growing cities in North America, famous for its coffee, grunge music and an ever-growing tech sector. Visitor highlights including the iconic Space Needle, historic Pioneer Square and the vast Museum of Flight. Should you prefer more time in the city and less time in the great outdoors, then just let us know and we’ll adjust the road trip to match your preferences.
The words rugged, craggy and remote come to mind when thinking of Olympic National Park. Situated in the far northwest of Washington State, Olympic is one of the wettest places you’ll ever visit. The unique climate makes this National Park a unique and atmospheric place to explore. Visitors can witness wild Roosevelt Elk living amongst the moss-covered trees, alpine meadows and the waterfalls of the area.
The Pacific Northwest has many magnificent beaches, and Rialto Beach and Ruby Beach are two of the most magical. Sea stacks, black sand and colossal driftwood get battered by the rough Pacific Ocean. Your personalised Road Trip Pack will show you how to find these beaches and many more places of outstanding natural beauty on this wild and wonderful coastline.
Continue along scenic Highway 101, heading south along the coast to Cannon Beach in neighbouring Oregon. En route, you can stop by Astoria, where classic 80’s films like The Goonies and Short Circuit were shot. Continue a little further to reach the stunning views of Ecola State Park and then Cannon Beach, the most-photographed landmark on the Oregon coast.
Cruise south on Highway 101, stopping at places of outstanding beauty as you go. Massive sandstone boulders look like they’ve fallen from the heavens along this stretch of coastline. Rugged, wild and wind-swept, Oregon’s beauty is up there with the very best North America has to offer.
You’ll leave Oregon today and enter Northern California in search of giant Redwood trees; along the way, you’ll explore scenic places like Shore Acres State Park and Cape Arago. Somewhat surprisingly, there are even 40 miles of sand dunes located in the North Bend area.
A full day exploring the gigantic redwoods in California’s most northern National Park. Redwood trees were once common throughout North America but now sadly they are mostly found in just Oregon and California. For the ultimate Sequoias experience head to the Redwood National Park in northern coastal California. These are true giants at up to 100m high and 11m in diameter. Once you’ve stood amongst these trees, the stresses of work and home life just melt away.
Crater Lake has inspired people for hundreds of years. No place else on earth combines a deep pure blue lake, sheer surrounding cliffs, two picturesque islands and a violent volcanic past. It is a place of immeasurable beauty and an outstanding outdoor laboratory and classroom.
Leave Crater Lake National Park and head to Mount Hood in northern Oregon using Highway 97. Along the way, you’ll pass by wonderful scenic places like Mount Bachelor and Smith Rock State Park to name just two.
Drive to Portland via the Columbia River Gorge; one must-see stop is Multnomah Falls on the Oregon side of the river. After more than a week in some of the most stunning outdoor scenery anywhere in the world, it’s time to hit the streets of a major city again. Hip Portland offers public gardens, cafe culture, tax-free shopping and much more. Historic Pioneer Square, in the heart of the city, is a great place to start.
A full-day exploring Portland is on offer today; highlights include The Rose Test Gardens, The Japanese Gardens and the Oregon Zoo. These three tourist treats lie within Washington Park on the city’s western edge. Be sure to visit the Pearl District too, for art galleries, interior design stores and trendy boutiques.
Mount Rainier is the highest mountain in the Cascade mountain range, and it is a spectacular National Park with wildflower meadows, glaciers, waterfalls and wildlife.
The final day of your Pacific Northwest adventure can be spent discovering more of Mount Rainier’s hiking paths in less accessible parts of the National Park. Alternatively, you can opt to chill with a good book in the historic Paradise Inn and enjoy a picnic in one of the summer flower meadows. The following morning, you’ll drive back to Seattle and fly home to the UK with a mind full of unforgettable memories.
