This beast of a crater is testimony of our earth’s traumatic history, and the violence it can withstand. The meteor that caused this 170m deep hole travelled at 8 miles per second, the resulting impact carrying the force of a thousand Hiroshima bombs. Words cannot do this monumental spot justice, but it’s easily accessible from Route 66 and rightfully deserves a visit.
