Tell us about your last road trip adventure…
I did some hiking in Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, driving north from Las Vegas for 4 days after sampling Sin City’s nightlife first. I then flew to Boston and drove to upstate New York to visit with friends who live between the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains ranges. You’re never far from beautiful state and national parks in America!
Favourite road trip?
I’d have to say visiting the stunning and myriad national parks of southern Utah. They’re so visually different but all in a relatively small area so easily accessible on a road trip.
Favourite place visited on a road trip?
Lynchburg, Tennessee, the home of Jack Daniels. It’s a small valley community in a dry (alcohol sales are illegal) county, but its tiny population manages to produce every single drop of its famous whiskey found in every bar in the world.
Most memorable drive
Definitely driving down Highway 1 along the coast in a convertible between San Francisco and Los Angeles. It’s not only scenic, its winding cliff roads are a lot of fun to drive and connect some really interesting and picturesque places to visit.
Favourite meal to eat in America?
I lived in Texas for a number of years so it has to be the BBQ of the Deep South, whether it’s ribs, pulled pork or brisket, it’s always great, and there are very different styles depending on what state or even region of the state you’re in.
Why do you love America so much?
Every trip is a journey of new discoveries, because the U.S has such varied peoples and history. From the Pennsylvania Dutch and Creoles of Louisiana to the cowboys and Navajo Indians of the SouthWest, they are proud of their respective cultures, and are friendly and welcoming to visitors keen to experience and learn more about them.
